And on both sides of the river was the tree of life.<\/div><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"720\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 1280 \/ 720;\" width=\"1280\" controls src=\"https:\/\/www.jesusfriends.church\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/NewJerusalem.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"512\" height=\"410\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jesusfriends.church\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/1000022653.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1277\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jesusfriends.church\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/1000022653.png 512w, https:\/\/jesusfriends.church\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/1000022653-300x240.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Using a square pyramid as the pattern for the New Jerusalem is a fascinating and long-debated theological interpretation.\u200b In Revelation 21:16, the text states:\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The city lies foursquare, its length the same as its width&#8230; its length and width and height are equal.&#8221;\u200b<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While many people immediately picture a cube, a square pyramid also perfectly fits this &#8220;foursquare&#8221; description because its base is a square and its vertical height can be exactly equal to the length of its base.\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Why a Spiral Pyramid Fits the New Jerusalem Description\u200b<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Applying the spiral pyramid model to the descriptions in Revelation 21 and 22 creates a vivid architectural map:\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The River of Life (The Spiral Path): \u200bIn Revelation 22:1, a &#8220;river of the water of life&#8221; flows from the throne of God. If the throne is at the very top of the pyramid, the river would naturally spiral down through the city.\u200b In the spiral model, this creates a continuous &#8220;street&#8221; or &#8220;path&#8221; that passes through every level and corner of the city as it descends from the throne of God and the Lamb at the mountain&#8217;s peak to the great wall and pearly gates at the base.\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Twelve Foundations and Gates:\u200b The pyramid has a massive square base. In this model, this base has four sides, which aligns with the three gates on each side (East, North, South, West) mentioned in Revelation 21:13.\u200b The spiral around and up the pyramid is the street of pure gold that transits from the pearly gates in the perimeter wall to the peak as it winds upward through every terraced neighborhood of the city on its way to the throne of God and the Lamb.\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The &#8220;Mountain&#8221; Motif: \u200bRevelation 21:10 says John was carried away to a &#8220;great and high mountain&#8221; to see the city come down from above. \u200bA pyramid is essentially a geometric mountain. Ancient ziggurats and pyramids were often built as &#8220;stairways to heaven.&#8221; A spiral path up a pyramid creates a literal &#8220;ascent&#8221; to the Glory of God that matches the\u200b Bible&#8217;s &#8220;Mountain of the LORD&#8221; imagery.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Light Without a Sun\u200b: The text says the city has no need for the sun because the glory of God (at the peak) illuminates it.  \u200bIn a pyramid structure, the &#8220;capstone&#8221; or apex is the highest point. In the spiral model, the light would radiate from the center-top and shine down over every winding tier of the city.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img equivalent to the width of a standard city block. This gives the structure a much more architectural feel, showing how a road or &#8220;street&#8221; would actually look winding up the 12,000-unit pyramid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u200b<strong>Structure Summary:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Total Height: 12,000 units.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Base Dimensions: 12,000 x 12,000 units.\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Path Density: 24 full rotations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Path Width: ~400 units (A massive thoroughfare capable of holding multiple lanes of traffic or small buildings).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Final Technical Specifications:\u200b<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Scale: 12,000 (L) x 12,000 (W) x 12,000 (H).\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Street Width: \\approx 500 units.\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Total Ascent: 24 full rotations.\u200bIncline: Because the path is so long (over 144,000 units), the slope is actually quite gentle\u2014about an 8.3% grade. This is similar to a steep mountain road, making it technically &#8220;driveable&#8221; for a vehicle.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While the slope itself isn&#8217;t too steep to walk, the length of your path is the real challenge. Since the total path length is roughly 144,000 units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Based on the mathematical formula we used to generate the spiral, it is a perfectly steady incline from the base to the peak.\u200bIn engineering terms, this is a constant grade. Because the path&#8217;s radius (the distance from the center) and its height (the Z-axis) decrease at a proportional, linear rate, the slope never changes. You wouldn&#8217;t hit any &#8220;flats&#8221; or &#8220;steeps&#8221;\u2014it would feel exactly the same at Turn 1 as it does at Turn 24.\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Why it feels steady\u200b:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The geometry works like a screw thread:\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Horizontal Distance: For every foot you move forward, you are wrapping around a slightly smaller square.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vertical Distance: For every degree you rotate around the pyramid, you rise by a fixed amount.\u200b<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The &#8220;Corner&#8221; Illusion<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u200bWhile the incline is steady, the experience of walking it would change at the corners.\u200bOn the flat faces of the pyramid, you are walking in a straight line.\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>At the four corners, you have to make a 90\\degree turn.\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Because the pyramid gets narrower as you go up, those corners come faster and faster.
